Samantha Winslow

I am the founder of and the programmer who changed the way we can look at our Interval Times in barrel racing. About me: I grew up out in Northern Ontario. My love for horses started when I was little with my pony rusty.

Rusty the Pony

My family has nothing to do with barrel racing or rodeo. I used to beg to stay up to watch Mesquite Championship Rodeo on Sunday nights and took every chance I got to be around horses.  When I didn’t have a horse, I was working my butt off at my aunt & uncles dairy farm to get enough money to have a horse. They let me gymkhana and show their old farm horse Brandy who had the patience of a saint. I went to a few little area shows but quickly realized if I wanted to advance, I needed to move somewhere that had more than 4 horse events per year.

Manitoba Bound…

At 22 I struck out for Petersfield MB with a pocket full of dreams and some college level business admin education to become a barrel racing champion.  My first horse Taffy (Brandy’s baby) moved to Manitoba about 6 months after me. We entered some 3D jackpots and I was instantly hooked on the Jackpot system.  We then entered a few amateur rodeos and I started dreaming big.  A little thing called West Nile Virus put an unfortunate dent in our jackpot & rodeo plans. She was retired as a lesson horse and sent back to Ontario to live out her life (she is now 24). I wanted to stay connected to barrel racing and I was always good at organizing information so when no one wanted to put on jackpots I stepped up to the plate. I organized a summer series in Stonewall MB and found a new passion within the industry.  My first jackpot program was pretty primitive but I just kept hammering away and improving it.

So It Begins…

I expanded my knowledge by becoming a rodeo secretary and semi professional level rodeo timer and became involved with the administration of a provincial rodeo association.  All that time I just kept building and improving the jackpot program.  A good friend learned of another Interval Timing business for sale and suggested I should buy it.  I checked it out but wasn’t happy with the software or the reports it produced.  I had become quite a programmer in Excel with a job I had in the consulting industry, so I decided to to build my own program.  Over time I have merged my jackpot program and the software to create the live leaderboard.  My original vision is validated at every event I attend, as people will seek me out to tell me how much the report has helped them improve their times after reading the report and realizing where their horse wasn’t clocking.  I still love to barrel race myself and see some big championships in my not too distant future.  I would like to thank all of my friends who have helped me to bring my vision to life and let me love and ride their horses when I didn’t have one of my own.  It took a lot of miles, dust, rain, long nights and early morning to bring my vision to life, but it has been so worth it.
