There is a strong limiting belief in the barrel racing world that because someone has had individual success, they can teach you to also be successful.

If Maury was hosting this blog post, the next thing out of his mouth would be “and the lie detector test determined, that was a lie”.

Why did I use the term “limiting belief” and what does that mean?

Limiting beliefs are those which constrain us in some way. Just by believing them, we do not think, do or say the things that they inhibit. And in doing so we impoverish our lives. … Limiting beliefs are often about our selves and our self-identity. The beliefs may also be about other people and the world in general.

Individual success does not give you the credentials to teach that success forward.  More often than not, people don’t event know what makes them successful at a deeper level.

Great horses showcase any trainers abilities.  Maybe there is more to the fact that “Great Trainers” have a refined skill at choosing horses that fit their own personal style, that they can showcase THOSE horses, then having a fundamental understanding of what can make any horse successful.  I see this over and over.  You sign up for a clinic that has 12-15 people.  The clinician makes every single horse and rider do the exact same thing.  Maybe a 1/4 of the people get something out of it, as their horses biomechanics may suit this “style” or “path” that the clinician is asking for, and the rest get nothing.  Actually they go backwards, because that isn’t the best path for that horse.

Sadly, money has become the #1 focus of those in the clinician world.  They sell you first on their ideas and then try and sell you every bit, saddle and supplement from the companies PAYING them to do this.  Clinicians have become so disconnected from what they are supposed to be doing, which is teaching not selling. There is no accountability either, it is buyer beware, no follow up or follow through, but this is the students fault.  It is our responsibility as the people taking these clinics to hold them accountable.

Why isn’t there a standard rule in barrel racing that if you take a clinic or workshop, you should be clocking better?

This is what we are paying for.  We are paying someone to help us shut the clock off faster, because quite simply stated, THAT IS THE POINT OF BARREL RACING.  To get better means you are shutting off the clock faster than you were before.

We have joined together with The Performance Horse Academy to bring a different type of clinic to the table – One that offers a deep analysis of your horses individual strengths and the adjustments they need to bring them to the next level – customized with interval timing proof, overhead video proof and the most in depth posture information you have ever seen.
